WORK. A Neubix film.

by Ryan Sims 8 Comments

I've been itching to shoot a video for quite some time now, something that had a bit more gusto than, say, some of my previous attempts. Rewind three years. I'm a fledgling designer with a major man-crush on 2Advanced. I was so interested to see what life at 2A was like. Were they mere mortals like me? How did they dress? What did their office look like? Well, for those of you out there who possibly ponder the same things about us, I'm sorry to say that we are quite normal and dare I say silly? Yes, we are very silly, despite what our imposing header graphics might imply.

Without further ado, I GIVE YOU "WORK"

I did most of the shooting with a Canon SD300 and a Sony Cybershot (yes, those are Digital STILL Cameras) and I edited those shots in After Effects 6.0. AE rocks the casbah. 90% of the shots are completely candid and there's a special treat after the video. Brad is well-known round these parts for his spot-on impersonation of Gollum/Smeagol, as well as his reluctance to perform it on demand. A few nights ago, I secretly caught Brad totally off-guard while washing the coffee pot. Secretly until I could no longer hold my laughter. Yes, he has lost touch with reality.

These videos are encoded with H.264 for Quicktime 7. (FREE download for Mac and Windows)
If you're not on OS 10.3.9 or higher or don't want to download Quicktime 7 for your beige PC, fine... here's a crappy Mpeg4 version. (51 MB) Music by the amazing Jimmy Eat World, from the special edition bonus disc of Futures.

I really enjoyed this video. This sounds cheezy I know, but you guys really inspire me. 2Advanced is amazing but I enjoy the human/social atmosphere you guys give out. That is what I hope to accomplish.

Without seeing the video you made Ryan I understand your admiration for 2Advanced. I first heard of them when I bought the Flash MX Bible and they were featured in that book. You know you're doing something right when the publisher of Flash MX Bible wants you to teach a mod of that book.

As far as Flash goes Dave Werner is also a great example.
